'A Starry Night' gala returning to NMSU, nominations accepted until Nov. 4

For the first time since 2019, New Mexico State University’s College of Arts and Sciences will host "A Starry Night" gala fundraiser. The college was forced to postpone the event since 2020 due to the pandemic lockdown.

The community awards will be presented at ceremony next spring from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts.

All funds raised will support the Aggie Jumpstart program, which provides an on-campus summer experience including academic support and special skills training for incoming freshmen to become acclimated to the university before they start college.

The regional community is asked to submit nominations for awards to recognize and honor businesses and community leaders for their contributions to the college and the university.

“We want everyone to let us know about individuals who deserve recognition and to tell us about their contributions to NMSU,” said Enrico Pontelli, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “NMSU’s success depends on support from our business and community leaders as well as our alumni, faculty and students. This is our opportunity to honor them.”

“A Starry Night” began in 2013 and will present awards this year in four categories: The Town and Gown award, the Star of the Arts and Humanities award, the Star of the Sciences award and the College of Arts and Sciences award. The honors recognize individuals who have achieved state, national or international distinction through their accomplishments and leadership while supporting their community and NMSU’s College of Arts and Sciences.

Nomination instructions and forms are online and may be filled out electronically or printed and mailed to the College of Arts and Sciences - A Starry Night, Attn: Marissa Holguin, NMSU -MSC 3335, Las Cruces, NM 88003-8001.

Nominations will be accepted until Nov. 4. Once received, the nominations will be reviewed by a committee within the Dean’s Council, who along with Pontelli, will select the recipients.
