A powerful 2019 exhibition in Juarez is coming to Las Cruces thanks to a collaboration between professors at the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juarez and NMSU Regents Professor Cynthia Bejarano. Bejarano, the Stan Fulton College of Arts and Sciences Endowed Chair, is one of the artists and is co-sponsoring the opening for "Desierto. Arte. Archivo." The reception will include music from NMSU music student Emma Alvarez and will have artists on hand from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at the Branigan Cultural Arts Center. The exhibit runs through Dec. 31. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. The Branigan Cultural Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
"Desierto. Arte. Archivo" is a multi-faceted, interactive installation featuring a series of individual and collective arts-based inquiries about the Chihuahuan Desert. The sixteen participating artists walked the desert terrain, engaged with it as a learning site, and searched for insights and tokens as they mapped their experience. The exhibition is coordinated by León de la Rosa-Carrillo, Ma. Eugenia Hernández-Sánchez and Gracia Chavez-Ortiz from the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juarez.
