Anne Hubbell has been at NMSU for nearly 25 years, dedicating herself to seeing students succeed in her role as a communication studies professor.
Hubbell now has a new role that allows her to focus more on students. Earlier this year, Hubbell was named full-time associate dean of the Conroy Honors College, a role that she previously served in a part-time capacity since 2021.
“I have to be a person who’s making a difference,” Hubbell said. “I always wanted to be a teacher. I grew up with a single mom, and we didn’t have much, so teachers made a big difference for me, and I wanted to pay it forward.”
After earning a Ph.D. in communication from Michigan State, Hubbell arrived at NMSU as a communication studies faculty member and instantly fell in love with the campus and its community.
“People have asked me to apply and take other jobs, and I’ve always said no,” Hubbell said. “The energy you get from our students is nothing like you’ve ever experienced.”
While Hubbell has been immersed with helping Honors students gain valuable experience in the classroom and through community service such as volunteering to be on the Honors Team at the upcoming Out of Darkness Campus Walk, she still considers the Department of Communication Studies her first home at NMSU.
“Leaving communication studies was really hard and bittersweet, because I love that place, but I knew it was time to do something else,” Hubbell said. “Everything I am is about students first.”
