Melissa Warr

Melissa Warr, an assistant professor in the School of Teacher Preparation, Administration and Leadership, has been selected as one of two recipients of the 2026 American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Martin Haberman Outstanding Journal of Teacher Education Article Award.

Warr authored “Uncovering the Hidden Curriculum in Generative AI: A Reflective Technology Audit for Teacher Educations,” along with Marie K. Heath of Loyola University Maryland. The two will receive the award Feb. 20 at the AACTE 2026 conference in New Orleans.

This award, cosponsored by Sage, recognizes exemplary scholarship published in the Journal of Teacher Education in the area of educator preparation or teaching and learning with implications for educator preparation. This year’s article is being recognized for its significant contribution to scholarship and practice in educator preparation.

Warr’s research explores the relationship among technology, creativity, design and critical pedagogy.

"Dr. Warr’s recognition with [this award] highlights the national significance of her scholarship,” said Michael Hout, associate dean for research in the College of HEST. “Her work on the hidden curriculum embedded in generative AI equips future educators to engage emerging technologies critically and equitably — an essential imperative for our land-grant mission, and one of national importance for educators in 2025. By focusing aspects of her work on underserved learners, her research ensures that innovation in teacher education expands opportunity rather than deepens inequity.
