Release Date: 13 Mar 2026
LCIFF s 48 Hour Film Challenge starts March 27

One of the Las Cruces International Film Festival’s many events is the “48-Hour Film Challenge,” a competition inviting filmmakers in the region of all ages to write, shoot and edit an original short film in just 48 hours for a chance to win $1,000 for the Grand Jury Award and the Audience Choice Award.

“We’re constantly inspired by the creativity and teamwork this challenge sparks – and the fun the teams have,” said Kyle Ivy, LCIFF marketing and communications director. “It’s amazing to see filmmakers turn a single prop and line of dialogue into a film in just 48 hours.”

This is an in-person competition that kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, March 27, at The Game restaurant, 2605 S. Espina St. Attendance at the kickoff is mandatory as participants will receive film challenge guidelines together as a group. The challenge ends at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 29. Registration is open now at https://forms.gle/1CaDZttx7X8LP8Sw7.

Successfully completed films will be screened at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Allen Theatres Cineport 10, when the audience-choice voting also will take place.
