Tony Marin, assistant vice president of Student Affairs, will receive this year’s Ralph B. Crouch Memorial Award for his contributions to New Mexico State University.

The Crouch Award recognizes a staff member that has shown outstanding contributions to the life of the university community. Marin will receive the award during NMSU’s Employee Appreciation Picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct 31 at Preciado Park.

“I am honored to receive this recognition of service to New Mexico State University,” Marin said. “There are numerous staff and faculty colleagues across campus that are deserving of this award, so I am humbled to have been selected for the Ralph B. Crouch Award.”

A two-time NMSU graduate, Marin has been employed with NMSU since 2001 and has held several positions. In his current role, he oversees departments such as the Student Success Center, Campus Tutoring Services, Office of Experiential Learning, Center for Academic Advising and Student Support, TRIO Educational Talent Search, three TRIO Upward Bound Programs, two TRIO Student Support Services STEM-H and Classic, and subset units designed to support student success and social mobility.

In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Marin has demonstrated a persistent commitment to increase external funding. He has secured more than $35 million in funding for NMSU.

“Tony truly spends all of his time advocating for and empowering students to overcome

barriers, real and perceived, so they can achieve success and accomplish their personal, academic

and professional goals,” said Dacia Sedillo, enterprise data architect manager at NMSU who nominated Marin. “Tony regularly communicates and even personally meets with individual students, parents, school personnel, university personnel and administrators to solve a wide range of issues, take on new initiatives or simply to support the work we all perform collectively.”

Marin’s favorite thing about working at NMSU is working with students and colleagues to provide essential access and support services necessary for student success.

“I believe that the collective work of staff and faculty across the New Mexico State University campus foster an environment for students to excel to their academic potential,” Marin said. “Most importantly, our students are highly talented, motivated, value oriented and are performing the work necessary to be successful at New Mexico State and beyond.”
