Every year the Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award is presented to a New Mexico State University staff member who demonstrated dedicated and outstanding service to the university. This year’s recipient is Alma Meza, an administrative assistant for the School of Teacher Preparation, Administration and Leadership in the College of Education.
A staff member at NMSU for 18 years, Meza is responsible for the administrative duties of faculty members and resources for the multiple divisions within TPAL.
“My favorite aspect of my job is the university atmosphere,” Meza said. “The opportunities of learning are never-ending at NMSU. I also like the friendly environment in each unit on campus and the networking that takes place.”
Meza helps manage the organization’s finances, including separate budgets for several departments, leads the scheduling process for 34 full-time faculty members for more than 12 programs, and organizes the hiring process for TPAL graduate assistants.
“TPAL would be unable to function without the exemplary services and tireless dedication demonstrated by Alma on a daily basis,” said TPAL Co-Director Rick Marlatt, who nominated Meza. “She is communicative, reliable and punctual in her duties; most impressively, she has the kindest soul.
“Perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of Alma’s job performance is that beyond her unique ability to balance quality and quantity with her work and voluntarily look ahead to necessary tasks, she inspires all of us to serve our stakeholders and take care of one another,” he said.
Meza will be honored at a Zoom reception Wednesday, Nov. 18.
“It is a special honor to be a recipient alongside with past honorees who contribute and continue to make a difference to our university community,” she said.
