Release Date: 26 Nov 2025
NMSU College of Business earns AACSB accreditation extension

New Mexico State University’s Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the College of Business has partnered with Los Alamos National Laboratory to offer a new experiential work opportunity for students.

LANL has created a new software developer position for upper-class NMSU students majoring or minoring in information systems. This position will enable students to hone their skills in software development in a professional environment and gain real-world experience at one of the nation’s leading labs.

The position was developed in collaboration with Rajaa Shindi, an associate professor of information systems in NMSU’s College of Business and adviser to NMSU’s Association of Information Systems, an award-winning student organization dedicated to helping undergraduate students advance their skills in information systems. Faruk Arslan, also an associate professor of information systems at NMSU, assisted in creating the collaboration.

“For information systems students, this unique collaboration with the Los Alamos National Laboratory technology team working on the Oracle APEX application represents an exclusive partnership,” Shindi said. “It offers a well-defined career path, providing a guaranteed post-baccalaureate position at LANL. I would like to extend my gratitude to Dr. Arslan for his collaboration and dedication, which have been instrumental in making this initiative a success.”

Shindi is currently accepting applications for the position. The selected student will work alongside LANL’s software development team to modernize essential applications.

Working directly with the Oracle APEX application, the student will execute the full software development life cycle, including planning, requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance and operations. They will also use Oracle database architecture for table design, package and trigger creation, among other duties.

“Participating in this program and contributing to community service through the Association of Information Systems enables students to develop their professional skills while strengthening the academic community,” Shindi said. “Engaging in such activities fosters personal and professional growth.”

Students interested in applying must be a junior or senior majoring or minoring in information systems and in good academic standing. They must also be an active member of the AIS chapter and complete a three-credit independent study to learn the APEX application over the spring 2026 semester.

For more information or to apply, students should contact Shindi at rshindi@nmsu.edu.
