The New Mexico Produced Water Research Consortium has launched a new podcast, “Let’s Talk Water, New Mexico,” to discuss trends in the use of non-traditional water resources. The Consortium is a collaborative effort among the New Mexico Environment Department, New Mexico State University, industry, academia, non-government organizations and federal and state agencies that focuses on research to support the safe and cost-effective treatment and use of treated produced water. The introduction trailer was released June 27.
The podcast series discusses ways to seize the opportunity to solve water challenges with innovation and collaboration. The Consortium has prepared six podcasts to discuss emerging national and regional issues, and challenges and opportunities for using non-traditional water resources, such as brackish water, municipal waste water, or oil and gas produced water, to supplement current fresh water supplies being negatively impacted by our changing climate.
“This series of podcasts will help the public understand the emerging innovations available to create new water for New Mexico, providing safe and sustainable water supplies well into the next century,” Consortium Program Director Mike Hightower said.
In July, episode one, “What’s the problem?” will be available, which will begin the series with information on climate changes that have significantly impacted fresh water resources and supplies across the Southwest and New Mexico.
Links to these podcasts will be available on the Consortium’s website at https://nmpwrc.nmsu.edu by clicking podcast under the resources tab or on YouTube.
The Consortium website also has additional technical information on produced water in New Mexico, research information, treatment technology information, produced water treatment and reuse, social and economic cost benefit analysis, and contact information available.
