Satyajayant “Jay” Misra, associate dean of research in the New Mexico State University College of Engineering, has been appointed Technical Program Committee co-chair for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Conference on Computer Communications 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious conferences in computer networking and communications.

Misra will serve in this one-in-a-lifetime role alongside Professor Tian Lan of George Washington University.

IEEE INFOCOM is widely regarded as a premier international forum for the presentation of advances in computer communications, attracting leading researchers, industry experts and academics from around the world.

The 2026 conference will be held May 18-21 in Tokyo, Japan, and will feature keynote addresses, technical paper presentations, panels, workshops, tutorials, poster sessions and student-focused programming. The conference continues a more than four-decade tradition of advancing the state of the art in networking research.

“INFOCOM continues to be one of the selective conferences for which networking and cybersecurity researchers work for a year or more to submit a high-quality paper to,” Misra said. “When I was a student, it was my dream to get a paper into INFOCOM any given year. It continues to be a high-impact venue. INFOCOM 2026 will bring researchers from all continents to spend four days in Tokyo, presenting and discussing cutting-edge research ideas.”

As Technical Program Committee co-chair, Misra is responsible for overseeing the highly selective peer-review process conducted by more than 400 researchers from around the world, building the technical program, and ensuring the overall quality and impact of the research presented at the conference.

This role is considered one of the highest forms of professional service in the field and is typically reserved for researchers who have made significant and sustained contributions. Misra joins a distinguished lineage of IEEE INFOCOM technical leaders.

“Dr. Misra’s appointment as Technical Program Committee co-chair of IEEE INFOCOM 2026 is a significant achievement,” said David Jáuregui, interim dean of the NMSU College of Engineering. “Serving in this role places NMSU alongside leading research institutions from around the world, underscoring the growing international visibility of our research efforts. It reflects not only Dr. Misra's sustained scholarly leadership, but also NMSU's expanding contributions to advancing research in computer science, engineering and emerging technologies on the global stage.”

For INFOCOM 2026, nearly 1,800 research papers were submitted from institutions worldwide, with about 330 papers accepted for presentation. Misra explains this reflects the conference's competitive nature and high standards for scholarly excellence.

“This year we had an increase of more than 20 percent in submitted papers, and this shows the growing interest in INFOCOM,” Misra said. “The paper selection process is multi-level with significant oversight by seasoned researchers in the community, and it is rigorous and selective. The selection process lasts over five months, involving several rounds of anonymous interactions among reviewers for each paper, culminating in a technical program committee meeting where borderline papers are adjudicated. We, the TPC co-chairs, made the final adjudication. This is a time-intensive endeavor, with TPC members spending many hours reviewing the papers and making decisions. I am thankful as a TPC chair for the service.”
