New Mexico State University’s College of Business will welcome local high school students and incoming college freshmen to campus June 22-26 for the return of the Accounting Career Awareness Program, or ACAP, hosted in partnership with NABA Inc. and NMSU Black Programs.

The free, weeklong summer program is designed for students in grades 9-12 and incoming college freshmen who are interested in exploring careers in accounting, finance and business. Through hands-on learning experiences, professional development activities and networking opportunities, participants gain insight into academic pathways and career opportunities within the business profession.

ACAP is a national initiative led by NABA Inc., an organization dedicated to empowering and advancing the next generation of business leaders. The program aims to increase awareness of accounting and business careers while helping students build leadership skills, confidence and professional connections.

“We’re proud to partner with NABA and Black Programs to bring ACAP back to campus,” said Bryan Ashenbaum, dean of the College of Business. “This program gives students a meaningful look into the business profession while surrounding them with mentors who believe in their potential. When young people see themselves reflected in these careers, it can change the trajectory of their education and their future.”

Throughout the week, students will participate in classroom sessions led by faculty and industry professionals, engage in networking activities and visit local businesses to learn firsthand about the role accounting and finance professionals play across a variety of industries.

The program reflects the College of Business’ ongoing commitment to community outreach and creating opportunities for students to explore higher education and professional careers.

“ACAP reflects our commitment to opening doors for future business leaders,” Ashenbaum said.  “By giving students early exposure to accounting, finance and the broader world of business, we’re helping them envision what’spossible and giving them the confidence to pursue those pathways. Programs like this strengthen our community and create momentum for students as they begin their academic journeys.”

In addition to learning about business-related career paths, participants will have opportunities to connect with mentors and professionals who can provide guidance as they prepare for college and future careers.

By bringing together educators, industry leaders and students, ACAP offers a unique opportunity to introduce young people to the possibilities available within accounting, finance and business while fostering meaningful connections that can support their academic and professional success.
