The search for a permanent dean to lead the New Mexico State University’s College of Health, Education and Social Transformation has begun, and the dean search committee is hosting a listening session this week to gather information on what kind of candidate should lead the new college.

NMSU Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Carol Parker announced in May that Enrico Pontelli, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will chair a committee to assist with identifying qualified candidates. Candidate nominations can be submitted at the search website https://webcomm.nmsu.edu/hire/hest-dean/.

The committee will host a listening session for students, faculty and staff from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, on Zoom. The session may be accessed by visiting https://imsearch.zoom.us/j/93969232605. Those who are unable to attend the session, or have additional information to share with the search firm, may complete a survey at https://www.research.net/r/GPYHL5R

The inaugural dean of the College of HEST will have numerous opportunities to develop initiatives as part of the implementation of NMSU’s strategic plan, LEADS 2025 (https://nmsu.edu/LEADS/).

Henrietta Pichon is serving as interim dean of the College of HEST until a permanent dean is selected. On July 1, the College of Education, College of Health and Social Services and Department of Sociology were combined to form the new college.

The goal of the College of HEST is to serve as a regional leader in identifying gaps that lead to disparities in health, education and socioeconomic outcomes. The college’s faculty work with community partners to design and provide research and academic programs to educate future leaders in policymaking through evidence-based practices.
