NMSU engineering graduate Acevedo to return to campus for book signing Nov. 3

New Mexico State University’s College of Engineering will host a book signing event with NMSU graduate Sylvia Acevedo from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at the NMSU Bookstore, 1400 E. University Ave. in Las Cruces. Acevedo will be signing her second book, “The Trailblazer’s Playbook: Practical Tactics to Rise Against the Odds and Achieve Excellence,” which was published in September.

Acevedo’s memoir, “Path to the Stars: My Journey from Girl Scout to Rocket Scientist,” was published in 2018 and details her journey from Las Cruces to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Acevedo earned her bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from NMSU

She also held executive roles at Apple, Autodesk, Dell and IBM before she became CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA. During her four-year tenure with the Girl Scouts, Acevedo championed STEM programs. She directed the organization’s most significant program expansion in more than a century by introducing 146 new badges and programs in STEM, outdoors, entrepreneurship and civics.

She truly represents the innovation and determination that define Aggie engineers.”

Currently, Acevedo travels the world as a public speaker known for her leadership, innovative and inspirational speeches. She is a board director for Qualcomm and lead independent board director at Credo Technologies.

Acevedo earned her master’s degree in engineering from Stanford University and has been recognized with honorary doctorates from Saint Mary’s College, Duke University and Washington College.
