New Mexico State University’s Dairy Extension will host a pair of Vermiculture Field Days in collaboration with DairyMax and BioFiltro Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Red Rock Dairy in Amherst, Texas, and Friday, Dec. 6, at the Rajen Dairy No. 2 in Clovis, New Mexico.
The events, which begin at 10 a.m. local time, will include an on-dairy viewing of the BioFiltro pilot system, lunch presentation and a question-and-answer session. BioFiltro is a wastewater treatment company. BioFiltro’s Biodynamic Aerobic, or BIDA System, has been installed and in operation at both field day sites throughout 2024.
The purpose of the BIDA System is to reduce emissions and improve water quality and soil health. The BIDA Systemuses the digestive power of worms and microbes to remove up to 99% of wastewater contaminants within four hours. The result is high-quality water that can be reused for agricultural irrigation, discharged to cities at reduced fees or disposed of over fewer acres to meet, if not exceed, nutrient management goals.
