Nusenda Credit Union Chief Financial Officer Adam Heying credits the New Mexico State University College of Business with establishing his foundation in the industry.

“I owe my interest in financial markets and my overall career trajectory to the College of Business professors at NMSU, especially those in the Finance Department,” Heying said.
“Not only did they prepare me from a financial acumen and technical ability standpoint, but their real-world experience helped shape my overall perspective of what work life would be like in the industry after graduating.”

Heying will return to campus as the featured speaker of the Nusenda Center for Financial Capability Distinguished Lecture Series at 6 p.m. April 16 at Domenici Hall, Room 109. Nusenda Credit Union, NMSU’s College of Business and the Nusenda Fintech Lab are co-sponsors of the event. The free Distinguished Lecture Series is focused on broadening the financial literacy and educational experience of NMSU and the Las Cruces community. Online registration is available at CrimsonConnection.nmsu.edu.

Heying’s presentation, “Breaking down the economy: a CFO’s 25-chart crash course,” will discuss the numbers and trends behind financial headlines.

“My hope is the attendees see that economic data can be presented in a way that’s interesting and visually tells a story of what’s happening around them,” he said. “I also hope it helps them better understand what’s happening in the real-world today from the perspective of a CFO and how I use these trends as a part of my overall toolkit to help make decisions that greatly impact our company and the financial lives of our members.”

Heying has been with Nusenda Credit Union since 2018. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from NMSU in 2006 and his Master of Business of Administration from the University of New Mexico in 2010.

“NMSU alumni like Adam returning to campus to share their stories and success have a profound impact on both our current students and for our institution,” said Marci Salinas-Milam, NMSU Academic Success Center program director. “From inspiring our students to be the next CFO, providing real-world perspective to strengthening our alumni network; this is a perfect example of Aggies using their platform to give back to NMSU.
