The New Mexico State University Library has launched a new Loanable Technology Program, expanding access to hands-on tools that help students create, experiment and excel in their coursework.
The program allows any currently enrolled NMSU student to borrow a wide range of equipment, including video and digital cameras, audio recording gear and computer accessories. Equipment is available at no cost and can be used for multimedia assignments, research projects and personal creative work.
“We’re excited to bring this service to our students and to put a powerful collection of creative tools directly into their hands,” said Kevin Comerford, dean of the NMSU Library. “Our Access Services staff have worked diligently to make the launch seamless, and they can’t wait to see the videos, recordings and digital projects our students will produce with the equipment now available to them.”
Students can browse available items and make reservations online at https://nmsu.libcal.com/reserve/LoanableTech. Once reserved, equipment can be picked up at the Library’s Access Services Desk. Staff members will assiststudents with the checkout process and review the equipment loan agreement.
Students may borrow up to five items at a time for an initial seven-day loan period. Loans may be renewed for an additional week if no other student has placed a hold on the item. Equipment must be returned in person, and students are responsible for removing any personal data before returning devices.
In addition to supporting academic needs, the program encourages students to explore new forms of digital expression and build technical skills that extend beyond the classroom.
“This program gives students who wouldn’t normally have access to these items a chance to learn and utilize this technology in their work, their hobbies and their special interests,” said Rick Rivera, a staff member with Library Access Services. “I know I would have checked out a GoPro a dozen times if my college library had had one available.”
The Loanable Technology Program is available to all currently enrolled NMSU students with a valid Aggie ID. A full list of available equipment and reservation details can be found on the program’s website.
