Following a national search, New Mexico State University has identified four finalists for the position of provost and chief academic officer. They are Adolfo Santos, an assistant provost at Texas A&M University; G. Eric Skipper, provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of South Carolina Beaufort; Alan L. Shoho, dean and professor emeritus of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and John Z. Kiss, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
NMSU College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences Dean Rolando A. Flores Galarza, who chairs the search committee, said the committee is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative leader who values diversity and social justice and shares NMSU’s mission as a public, Hispanic-Serving and Minority-Serving Institution dedicated to serving the community.
“We’re looking forward to getting to know each of these finalists better in the coming weeks,” Flores Galarza said. “It’s important that we get as much feedback as possible from our faculty and staff, our students, and the broader community, so we hope to have a full house at each of the public forums happening this month.”
The provost and CAO oversees all academic programs and provides general administrative supervision of all academic units of the university system. On the Las Cruces campus, the provost oversees five academic deans and three service deans, who lead the colleges of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences; Arts and Sciences; Business; Engineering; and Health, Education and Social Transformation; along with the Honors College, Graduate School, and NMSU Library. The provost also oversees four associate provosts and numerous professional and administrative staff.
As part of the finalists’ visits to campus for interviews, NMSU will host open forums for each candidate throughout January, with opportunities for discussion and input from faculty and staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and the community. All of the forums will take place in the Corbett Center West Ballroom and will also be webcast using Zoom at the links in the schedule below.
