Retired New Mexico State University deans Susan Brown and Elizabeth Titus have been recognized as dean emeritae by NMSU Provost Carol Parker. Both Brown and Titus were recognized for their service to the university at the Dec. 2 NMSU Board of Regents meeting.
Titus retired from the university Oct. 1. She joined NMSU as dean of the library in July 2000. Parker had previously named Titus, the library’s first woman dean, professor emerita in recognition for her contributions to NMSU and the state.
A strong advocate for libraries, Titus supported the GO Bonds initiatives in New Mexico, which is now a substantial funding source for all types of libraries. Titus is an elected officer for the New Mexico Consortium of Academic Libraries Legislative Committee. She also serves on three American Library Association/Library Leadership and Management Association committees.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be bestowed with the dean emerita status,” Titus said.
Brown retired Nov. 1, and had previously served as interim dean of the College of Education and director of the STEM Outreach Center.
In Brown’s 25-plus years as a faculty member at NMSU, she obtained more than $23 million in contracts and grants, and establishing successful research centers such as the STEM Outreach Center and an autism diagnostic clinic, all of which have had positive impacts on the K-12 educational system in New Mexico.
“Dean Brown leaves a legacy spanning 25 years of impactful research, dedicated teaching and extensive service,” Parker said. “We know her dedication to our students and the community will remain strong and for that we are very grateful.”
Brown added she is “proud of the recognition as it reflects on our College of Education.”
Dean emerita is an honorary title awarded by the provost.
