New Mexico State University has been selected to receive an Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students grant from the U.S. Department of State’s Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad. NMSU was one of 24 institutions selected from 115 applicants.
The program’s goal is to create, expand and diversify American student mobility overseas in support of U.S. foreign policy goals.
“The U.S. State Department’s IDEAS grant will provide an additional investment in our Education Abroad Program’s goals of providing experiential learning opportunities through international study for NMSU students,” said Tony Marin, assistant vice president of student engagement. “The activities will involve strengthening strategic partnerships with faculty and the Center for Academic Advising and Student Support staff in pursuit of elevating student success and social mobility among our outstanding NMSU student body.”
Marin, Education Abroad International Student Program Coordinator Kari Cena and Education Abroad Program Manager Erica Nikolaisen are principal investigators for the $26,228 grant.
The Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad, which is supported by World Learning, also offers opportunities for faculty, staff and administrators to participate in a series of free virtual and in-person study abroad capacity building activities.
