Since 2013, New Mexico State University has hosted a ceremony to remember students, faculty, staff and alumni who died during that academic school year. This year’s Aggie Remembrance Day is an opportunity for the campus community to gather and recognize those lost between April 15, 2024, and April 15, 2025, and honor their memories. The Aggie Memorial Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Corbett Center Student Union, third-floor ballrooms.
The ceremony is open to the NMSU community and the public. The program includes speakers from the NMSU community and reading of the names of the Aggie students, faculty, staff and alumni who have died and ringing of the bell. Hors d’oeuvres will be served prior to the ceremony.
"Being a New Mexico State Aggie isn’t just something I’ve done – it’s at the core of who I am. That’s why Aggie Remembrance Day and our memorial hold such deep meaning. They remind us that those we’ve lost this year weren’t just names – they were fellow Aggies whose lives were touched and shaped by this community, just like mine. It’s a powerful thing to pause, not because we’re expected to, but because we feel it in our hearts. We remember them because we’re family – and family never forgets,” Dean of Students Ann C. Goodman said.
“The Aggie Memorial Ceremony is tradition that holds meaning to all Aggies, as one day all of our names will be read as we are remembered in this ceremony,” said Student Involvement and Leadership Programs Associate Director Michelle Grandjean.
“There is value for us all in recognizing the impact that our fellow Aggies have had on our campus, our community and our world,” said Sylvia Y. Acosta, NMSU Foundation CEO.
Online RSVP is encouraged and available at the Aggie Remembrance Day webpage. The ceremony will be available virtually on Zoom.
The Office of the Dean of Students and Student Involvement and Leadership Programs, in partnership with the NMSU Foundation, lead the coordination of the ceremony.
