Chile pepper researchers, producers, processors, students or any chile pepper enthusiast can learn the latest research initiatives of chile pepper production at the chile field day Sept. 28 at the Curry Seed and Chile Company, 1091 E. Curry Road, in Pearce, Arizona. New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service will co-host the field day with University of Arizona’s Cooperative Extension Service.
Chile pepper researchers from throughout the United States will discuss their research from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the free event. Lunch will be provided from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
“While chile peppers are cherished by New Mexicans, researchers throughout the country also contribute to supporting the crop through their efforts,” said Stephanie Walker, NMSU Extension vegetable specialist.
Researchers from Cornell University, Texas A&M University and University of Wisconsin will discuss chile disease management, mechanical harvest updates, cover crops, crop rotation, field management, chile pepper quality and nutritional improvement and chile research and breeding updates.
“It is rare to bring together such an impressive group of researchers to discuss their chile pepper work, especially in a production field setting,” Walker said. “This is an event that should not be missed if you work with chile peppers or are interested in learning more about producing the crop.”
