For the second consecutive year, New Mexico State University’s Indian Resources Development will host the Dream Keepers Online summer camp. The three-week virtual camp will be held July 6-23 on Zoom and is open to Native American high school students entering 10th through 12th grades who are affiliated with Tribal Nations in New Mexico and interested in attending a higher education institution in the state.
Indian Resources Development, which is housed in NMSU’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, offers Dream Keepers Online free to participants. Applications are due by 5 p.m. July 2 at https://ird.nmsu.edu/dkc.html.
Dream Keepers Online is a camp for students to learn about college and career opportunities in industries such as agriculture, natural resources, engineering and business. Educators, industry professionals and Native professionals from across New Mexico will present online sessions.
A new opportunity for 2021 will be the addition of a college fair and a career fair. The fairs will be open to the public. Registration for the fairs will open in July at https://ird.nmsu.edu/dkc.html, and priority will be given to camp participants.
This year, students also will have the chance to meet Native American college students from New Mexico who will serve as college counselors, said Charlene Carr, Indian Resources Development program coordinator. She added the Indian Resources Development staff is excited to have several hands-on activities that will be coordinated remotely.
Dream Keepers Online will consist of two-hour sessions Monday through Friday. The current schedule features a combination of morning and afternoon sessions for workshops.
