New Mexico State University’s Esports program will host its second esports invitational Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, in the Corbett Center Student Union on the Las Cruces campus. The event will consist of college and high school students competing in five different video game titles including League of Legends, Rocket League, Mario Kart 8, Chess and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Teams from all over the southwest region will be competing. The event is free and open to the public.

Introductions and a preview of the event will be held at 9 a.m. March 4. The first invitational in 2022 included more than 200 individual competitors and 450 attendees. NMSU’s Esports program was initially formed in 2015 as a small gaming club. Since then, the program has experienced significant grown and began to emphasize competition and media presence in 2021.

NMSU event organizers are anticipating a large turnout. Team registration is available online at https://forms.gle/sQ5KdSjJebhqyqTx7. Equipment will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, but NMSU organizers encourage competitors to bring personal equipment.

The event will be live streamed on the NM State Esports Twitch Channel and on five additional twitch streams for each individual game.
