New Mexico State University’s Office of Experiential Learning will host the Aggies Cure Drive benefitting the Gift of Life Marrow registry from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 2 in Corbett Center Student Union’s Aggie Lounge.
Gift of Life’s mission is to cure blood cancer through cellular therapy. The goal for this drive is to add 750 new potential donors to the national marrow registry.
The Aggies Cure Drive will provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to potentially save lives by getting swabbed to determine if they are a match for someone battling blood cancer. Each swab kit processed at the event will register one individual as a potential lifesaving donor for a patient in need. The student group with the most attendance will win a prize.
To participate, individuals can provide a simple swab sample at the event. Participants must be 18 to 61. In addition to getting swabbed, individuals also can contribute financially to cover the lab costs associated with processing swab kits. Every $60 donated will cover the expenses for one swab kit, which enables more potential donors to register and increases the chances of finding matches for patients.
