NMSU to host public reading by award winning investigative writer April 10

In an upcoming public reading at New Mexico State University, Tim Z. Hernandez will share his investigation into the histories and shared stories from the families of the 28 Mexicans killed in the 1948 plane wreck at Los Gatos Canyons. He will read from his investigative documentary novel “They Call You Back: A Lost History, a Search, a Memoir” which begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 10 at NMSU’s CMI Theater in Milton Hall, Room 171.

Hernandez’s presentation is part of the Nelson-Boswell Reading Series hosted by La Sociedad para las Artes. The reading is free and open the public and copies of his novel will be available for purchase.

In “They Call You Back,” Hernandez searches for the victims of the plane crash, seeking to tell their stories and understand his own ancestral past in the process. The novel encompasses a lifelong journey through memory, addiction, generational trauma and the spirit world.

Hernandez is an author, investigative researcher, performer and documentary filmmaker. His writing includes poetry, novels, historical fiction, memoir and screenplay, and has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, C-Span, NPR and others. Many of his works have received international acclaim.

The Nelson-Boswell Reading Series invites visiting writers to NMSU to share their work with the community. La Sociedad para las Artes is seeking to establish a permanent endowed fund through the NMSU Foundation whose earnings will support creative writing programs, including visiting writers and reading series as well as creative writing workshops for children in Las Cruces Public Schools.
