Described as clever, uncompromising, and utterly meta, award-winning writer and New Mexico State University visiting fiction professor Jessica Alexander will bring her dark imagination to the Nelson-Boswell Reading Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in the CMI Theater (Room 171) located inside Milton Hall on NMSU Main Campus.
Based in Tennessee, Alexander hosts virtual writing workshops for memoirists, poets and fiction writers. Drawing from her experience writing four books and 14 publications, Alexander works to ignite the ideas of those in her class and her readers.
The public reading event, organized by La Sociedad para Las Artes, will feature Alexander reading selections from her gothic novel, “Agnes, We're Not Murderers!” This experimental horror follows themes of vampires and queer romance and was described as “a reading experience unlike any other” by Gwendolyn Kiste, a four-time Bram Stoker award-winning author.
The Nelson-Boswell Reading Series hosts visiting authors and graduating MFA cohorts to read pieces of their literature before a live audience. Visitors are welcome, free of charge, to listen to the storytelling of many authors throughout the year and stay for a discussion following the reading.
