New Mexico State University Department of Extension Plant Sciences and Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education will host weed management presentations and tours on Thursday, Dec. 12 and Friday, Dec. 13.
The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at Fabian Garcia Research Center, 113 New Mexico State Rd 101 in Las Cruces. Participation is free and open to the public. For registration or more information email Israel Joukhadar, senior research scientist, at icalsoya@nmsu.edu.
The presentations and tours will educate and inform participants on rangeland and agricultural weed management. Topics covered include noxious and invasive weeds; weed identification; and mastering rangeland weeds such as strategies for effective management, drone demonstrations, taming the urban weed jungle and integrated strategies and new technologies for agricultural fields.
“The impact of this event includes increased awareness and understanding of effective rangeland and agricultural weed management practices among participants,” Joukhadar said. “By incorporating interactive elements like tours and drone demonstrations, attendees can gain hands-on experience and practical insights. This can lead to better implementation of sustainable weed management strategies, improved land productivity and enhanced environmental stewardship in their own operations. Additionally, the use of advanced technologies like drones may inspire innovation and more efficient practices in the field.”
