New Mexico State University and the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program will sponsor a smart farming workshop at the Rio Grande Community Farm, 1701 Montaño Road NW in Albuquerque, to provide farmers and agricultural professionals with insights into smart farming tools on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
The free event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required by Friday, Oct. 18. To register, email icalsoya@nmsu.edu.
“Farmers and agricultural professionals will be exposed to affordable and accessible technologies, which can enhance efficiency, productivity and sustainability in their farming operations,” said Israel Joukhadar, Extension Plant Sciences senior research scientist. “This knowledge can help small-scale farmers stay competitive and adapt to modern agricultural practices.”
Through presentations, a farm tour and hands-on demonstrations, participants will learn about a variety of hardware and software solutions tailored for agricultural applications.
This event will highlight a wide range of sensor technologies designed to monitor key farming conditions. The showcased technologies will include irrigation management and weather monitoring systems that can help farmers make informed decisions about planting, harvesting and protecting crops from extreme weather events. Participants will have the opportunity to build smart farming devices at the event.
Brian Naughton, wind energy systems engineer from Rio Grande Community Farm, is spearheading the event with Joukhadar.
