The New Mexico State University Alumni Association will accept nominations from the public for the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Awards through May 15. Since 1956, more than 400 Aggies have received these prestigious awards, the highest recognition bestowed upon NMSU alumni.
Each year during Homecoming weekend, the NMSU Alumni Association proudly honors some of the university’s most accomplished graduates with these notable awards: the Distinguished Alumni Awards, the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service, the highest honor, and the Young Alumni Service Award. Nominations are open to everyone for any living NMSU alum, with criteria and nomination forms available on the AlwaysAnAggie.org website at https://alwaysanaggie.org/alumni/da-award-nomination/.
“Our Distinguished Alumni Award honorees truly embody the spirit of what it means to be an Aggie,” said Sylvia Y. Acosta, CEO of the NMSU Foundation. “Their remarkable achievements, commitment to their communities, and dedication to making a difference reflect the values instilled at NMSU. These individuals inspire us all to dream big, serve boldly, and create lasting change in the world.”
For nearly 70 years, the Distinguished Alumni Award has recognized NMSU alumni whose accomplishments and leadership have contributed to the quality and advancement of NMSU and the community. Six alumni, one representing each academic college, two for the College of Arts and Sciences, at NMSU, are honored.
In 1966, the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service was established to recognize an individual or couple who has shown progressive support, dedicated involvement, and impactful civic and humanitarian service to NMSU and within their communities. Nominees can be either alumni or friends of the university.
The Young Alumni Service Award, established in 2019, is awarded to one alum who is an emerging professional. The nominee must be younger than 40 and making great strides in shaping their community’s future while bringing distinction to NMSU.
Nominations for all these awards are due by May 15, and can be completed online at https://alwaysanaggie.org/alumni/da-award-nomination/. Anyone may nominate an NMSU alum for these honors. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled to take place during Homecoming weekend 2025, and guest registration for the ceremony will be opened later this year.
