“This field day is an excellent chance for the community to come out and see firsthand the important research conducted at the science center,” said Mark Marsalis, Extension forage specialist and research director at the Agricultural Science Center in Los Lunas. “These educational events provide information to the public in order to better understand the issues facing producers of agronomic and horticultural crops, and how those issues are being resolved.”

The event will include wagon tour research presentations on jujube fruit cultivars from Shengrui Yao, Extension fruit specialist; grapes for wine and table from Maryel Lopez, Extension plant sciences program coordinator; tomatoes and agrivoltaics from Marisa Thompson, Extension horticulture specialist; chile mechanical harvest from Stephanie Walker, Extension vegetable specialist; landrace chiles, chocleros and central Asian melons from Charles Havlik, senior research assistant; Natural Resources Conservation Center conservation grasses; cover crops for weed control in chiles from Brian Schutte, associate professor of weed physiology; and pasture grasses for northern New Mexico and alfalfa variety trials from Marsalis.

The field day will run concurrently with the Valencia County Fall Farm Festival at the science center. Visitors can attend both events.
