Balancing school with work, Audra Bryan enjoys serving the NMSU community who may be struggling with food insecurity by working at Aggie Cupboard, the university’s food pantry that provides free supplementary food assistance to students, staff and faculty across the Las Cruces campus and Doña Ana Community College.
“There are many things that I enjoy about my job at the Aggie Cupboard, but overall, I most enjoy being able to help students, staff and faculty in need, whether that is financially or just with food insecurity,” Bryan said. “I really enjoy being able to be a part of this NMSU community and just being able to contribute to the well-being of everyone on our campus.”
Bryan, a junior at NMSU, is studying psychology and criminal justice, with a minor in forensic science. She’s been a student aide with the Aggie Cupboard since fall 2022, when she started her journey at NMSU. She is expected to graduate in fall 2025.
“On a day-to-day basis, I usually restock the shelves with food that is needed, I also check the inventory to make sure that we are not running low on any items, as well as makeup food bags that have been ordered ahead of time,” Bryan said. “During distribution hours, I help students, staff, and faculty that come into our office obtain food and/or any other resources they may need.”
Bryan also manages Aggie Cupboard’s social media content and added that a newly developed system, “PantrySoft,” will allow students, staff and faculty to place their food orders online, which helps on the backside of the pantry’s inventory.
"During my time working at the Aggie Cupboard, I have enjoyed my job more and more each day. I’m proud to be associated with the Aggie Cupboard,” she said
