Freddie Romero has a passion for working with students, and he is dedicated to helping them succeed in their college experience. As an academic adviser at NMSU since 2017, Romero routinely meets with students to help them explore and identify their academic and career goals.

“The two parts of my job that I love most are working with students, and working alongside colleagues who share a common mission to see our students through to graduation,” he said “Every student has their own motivation for continuing their education, and I constantly find myself in awe of their stories, and their tenacity to better their lives, and the lives of their families through education. It is truly a privilege to play a small part in each student’s journey.

“We assist students to have holistic and individually tailored college experiences in their academic journeys,” Romero said. “Every student has a different path, and advisers are here to walk next to them every step of the way as they make their way through college.”

A 13th generation New Mexican, Romero earned two degrees from NMSU – a bachelor’s degree in government in 2015 and master’s degree in public administration in 2020. As a student, Romero worked as a peer mentor for the TRIO Student Support Services program and graduate mentor for the Student Success Navigator program.
