Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University has a mission to promote economic development through innovation entrepreneurship. One Arrowhead economic development officer has made great strides in helping the center make an impact not just in the state, but throughout the region.

Kristin Morehead was recently recognized as one of the Borderland Women Tech by Progress 321, a nonprofit network of area professionals, and El Paso Matters, a nonprofit online news publication, in celebration of Women’s History Month in March.

Morehead has been with NMSU since 2013, starting in the office of the late Kevin Boberg, who was then the NMSU vice president for economic development, then moving to Arrowhead Center in 2015.

Currently, Morehead oversees several community-facing entrepreneurial support programs, including the community sprint accelerator programs and Arrowhead Ventures, the post-accelerator support program for small business owners. She also oversees the Enterprise Advisor Network, which connects Arrowhead clients with expert business mentors, the annual WE Mean Business conference and programs for women entrepreneurs, and specialized enterprise research projects related to agri-business.

“What I enjoy most about my job is working alongside business owners and entrepreneurs to help them connect with resources and programs that move their businesses forward, and building supportive relationships,” Morehead said. “Every day is a little different, and I have learned about so many different industries while assisting our talented entrepreneurs on exciting projects.”

Morehead is an accomplished Aggie, earning all three of her degrees from NMSU. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English, anthropology and foreign languages; a master’s degree in anthropology; and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and administration, which she earned last year.
