Staff Spotlight: Marissa Holguin, College of Arts and Sciences

Marissa Holguin started working at New Mexico State University as a work-study student in 2004. After earning her bachelor's degree from NMSU in 2007, she was hired as a full-time staff member in 2008, working in different positions in the Department of Chemistry. While a full-time employee at NMSU, Holguin earned two master's degrees, one in 2013 in government and another in English in 2019.

Holguin is now the academic operations officer in the office of the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

"I oversee the daily administrative components of the dean’s office, provide policy information to faculty, assist with human resources and budget action items," Holguin said.

An average day for Holguin includes reviewing policies to ensure accuracy, utilizing Banner analytics to complete data reports and provide up-to-date budget information. She also works with the dean and associate deans and members of college committees to schedule meetings and plan events.

"I enjoy being able to help the faculty, staff and students that make NMSU a great place to work and learn," Holguin said. "The dean’s office is always willing to go above and beyond to assist the NMSU community, and I am proud to be a part of this team."
