Meg Eastwood joined the NMSU Library in December 2025 as the institutional scholarship librarian and library liaison to the sciences and engineering. She was drawn to NMSU by the opportunity to champion open knowledge and by the beauty of the Organ Mountains and Mesilla Valley.

“A big part of what drew me to NMSU was the opportunity to help build a culture of open knowledge and make research and scholarship more accessible,” Eastwood said.

In her role, Eastwood helps faculty, staff and students share their work openly while retaining their copyright. She assists researchers with open access requirements, author rights, licensing and other questions related to scholarly publishing. She also helped launch Digital Commons @ NMSU, the university’s new open access repository.

“NMSU’s new Digital Commons repository gives our community a place to share work that might otherwise languish on a hard drive,” Eastwood said. “We can share student projects, audiovisual recordings and image collections alongside articles, books, datasets, conference outputs, teaching materials and more.”

Eastwood also works with students in the sciences and engineering to strengthen their information literacy skills through library instruction, research consultations and online guides. She supports faculty and graduate students with literature searching, data management, citation management software and researcher identifiers.

Beyond her work, Eastwood said her favorite things about NMSU are the welcoming environment and “friendly and inquisitive students.” When she is not in Zuhl Library, she might be found taking a break at the turtle pond.
