As director of Aggie One-Stop, Rafael Delgado is a problem solver. He helps students navigate university processes by providing guidance, removing barriers and connecting them with the resources they need to succeed at New Mexico State University.

“I really enjoy working with students to help them understand the business side of college,” Delgado said. “I try to take a teach-versus-tell approach, where we try to walk each student through their issues and help them understand how to resolve the issue on their own, or at least understand why they are asking their question. It is easy to answer a student’s question, but it is more impactful to take the time to provide additional context and information related to that question.”

Delgado, who joined the university in 2014, manages a team of eight professional staff and 12 student employees.

“My other favorite aspect of my job is my team and colleagues I have the privilege of working with every day,” he said. “Like many student services professionals, they come to work each day with a shared purpose, doing everything we can to help our students succeed. Their dedication, compassion and commitment to service are at the heart of why I love my job so much.

“Throughout my career, I have learned how important it is to build a community of professionals who share a common vision and values,” Delgado said. “Having the opportunity to collaborate with people who are equally passionate as I am about student success makes what I do more meaningful.”

Delgado is a three-time NMSU graduate. He earned an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2010 and 2014, respectively. In 2025, Delgado earned his master’s degree in educational leadership and administration and began the educational leadership doctoral program in fall 2026.
