For 13 years, Teddie Moreno has been a dedicated member of the New Mexico State University Library. Moreno joined the NMSU Library in 2011 as a library specialist in Archives and Special Collections – her first and only role at the university. She said she’s proud to have grown with the position over the years, calling it both challenging and rewarding.

Her primary responsibility is processing archival manuscript collections. Whether donations or acquisitions, the records often arrive in overwhelming, unorganized volumes. Moreno transforms them into structured, logical groupings, creating detailed finding aids that are shared on New Mexico Archives Online, a statewide portal connecting researchers to primary sources housed in 18 repositories, including NMSU.

In addition to archival processing, Moreno serves as the first point-of-contact for researchers. She responds to inquiries by email and phone and assists visitors in the research room twice a week. Her users include NMSU students and faculty, visiting scholars, authors, genealogists and community members.

“What I love most about my work is the thrill of discovery – helping someone track down that elusive piece of information that seemed impossible to find,” Moreno said. “It’s like solving a historical puzzle, and I don’t give up easily.”

Though she hasn’t yet completed her bachelor’s degree at NMSU, Moreno holds an associate’s degree in library technology from Doña Ana Community College.

“Every day in the archives deepens my knowledge and appreciation for New Mexico’s history,” she said. “Even though some days are exhausting, I can’t believe how lucky I am to do this work.”
