Three New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service plant science specialists will be among the featured speakers at the 39th annual Think Trees New Mexico Urban Tree Care Conference Feb. 6-7 in Albuquerque at the Embassy Suites by Hilton, 1000 Woodward Place NE.

Early bird registration for the two-day conference is $260 and ends Wednesday, Jan. 15. Online registration is available at thinktreesnm.org. After Jan. 15, registration is $295. Students can register for $80.

The conference brings together leaders in arboriculture to enhance understanding and collaborative training. NMSU speakers include Leslie Beck, associate professor and Extension weed specialist; Joanie King, assistant professor and Extension entomology specialist; and Phillip Lujan, assistant professor and Extension plant pathologist.

“Last year, we had over 400 attendees, and we’re already excited to see early registrations from communities across the state like Clovis, Farmington and Socorro. Something special happens when so many tree industry members and supporters come together to learn urban tree care strategies specific to our region and the issues we’re all facing,” said Marisa Thompson, NMSU Extension urban horticulture specialist and Think Trees board president.

Other speakers include Neil Hendrickson, tree risk assessment expert and retired Bartlett Tree Research technical specialist; James Cassidy, Oregon State University soils scientist; Anne Fenkner, Davey Resource Group project developer; and Ursula Schuch, University of Arizona professor and Extension specialist.

Continuing education units are available from the International Society of Arboriculture, New Mexico Department of Agriculture, American Society of Landscape Architects and Society of American Foresters.
