U.S. Rep. Xochitl Torres Small will provide an update from the House Agriculture Committee during the second session of

The webinar is the second in the series of monthly meetings designed to provide up-to-date information to agricultural producers.

“The first of this series provided some good information regarding the impact of COVID-19 outbreak on the cattle industry,” Gifford said. “We plan to have these monthly webinars to provide the valuable information to our cattle producers so they can make informed decisions.”

Also on the program will be Dave DuBois, Stan Bevers and Justin Gleghorn.

DuBois, NMSU climatologist, will provide an up-to-date monsoon outlook.

“Some of our areas in the state are already facing dry conditions and are trying to decide what to do with calves when the forage is running out and the market is volatile,” Gifford said. “Hopefully Dr. DuBois will have some good news for us with a favorable monsoon outlook.”

Bevers will provide a beef cattle industry update and fall management considerations. The retired Texas A&M University agriculture economist is currently a practitioner in ranch economics at the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management.

“Dr. Bevers is one of the premier ranch economists in the country and has extensive experience with ranching operations from Texas and New Mexico to Montana,” Gifford added.

Gleghorn, of Cactus Feeders, will provide an update on the challenges the feeder industry is facing.

“Many of our calves sold in New Mexico end up at feedyards in the Panhandle region. Justin Gleghorn will highlight some of effects COVID-19 has had on the feeder industry, as well as provide considerations for retaining ownership and utilizing custom feeder services,” Gifford said.
